Since the Early Dynastic Period and on in Egypt, alabaster was regarded as a pure stone and used for chapels, pavements in temples, sarcophagi, altars and above all statues because of its color and durability. Alabaster's importance and sought after qualities continue to be prominent in Egypt today. This set of glasses is perfect as decor for a table or mantle within a home. Each cup was handmade, with a rough, unpolished texture that display streaks of different shades of brown, rusted reds, and white marbled through it. The cups average at approximately 8cm tall with a 5.5cm diameter.
